This 1946 Studebaker M5 pickup is said to have been stored in a dealership by the owner of Bergstrom’s Antique & Classic Autos in Port Townsend, Washington for four decades until it was sold around 2018, and the current owner acquired it in 2019. Since that time the truck was disassembled and refinished in red over a brown and tan interior, and its 170ci Champion inline-six was cleaned, the cylinder-head gasket replaced, and the carburetor rebuilt. The three-speed manual transmission was inspected, the fuel tank was cleaned, the fuel lines were replaced, and the fluids have been changed. The electrical system was also overhauled, and a turn-signal system was added. Under prior ownership the wheels were powdercoated, and the brakes as well as the tires were replaced. Â
The fenders, bed, hood, doors, and running boards were removed for the refurbishment. Rust was repaired on the bottoms of the doors, and the running boards were powdercoated before their top sides were refinished in acrylic urethane. The body was refinished in red, and features include a custom-fabricated passenger-side mirror, dual-filament parking lamps to accommodate turn indicators, Trippe headlights with high beams, and vent windows.Â
White 16″ wheels wear Studebaker hubcaps and are mounted with 215/70 Sailun Terramax HLT tires. Under previous ownership the wheels were powdercoated and the tires and brakes were replaced.Â
The interior features a brown bench seat contrasted by a tan dashboard and door panels. A black liner covers the floor. The seller states that the electrical system was overhauled with cloth-covered wiring, and a column-mounted turn-signal controller was installed. Wiring for a trailer also was added at that time. The headlight switch was replaced and the push-button ignition switch was relocated to the dash.Â
A two-spoke steering wheel frames instrumentation that includes a horizontal 100-mph speedometer flanked by four auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 73k miles.Â
The 169.6ci Champion inline-six was removed from the truck under current ownership and its water jackets were cleaned, the freeze plugs were removed, the cylinder-head gasket was replaced, and the carburetor was rebuilt. The fuel tank was cleaned, and the fuel lines were replaced. The fluids have been changed.Â
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed T86 manual transmission, which was inspected and is believed to be a replacement unit.Â
The aforementioned front grille guard will accompany the truck along with a maintenance booklet and a parts/service guide. Other small parts shown above also will be included.Â
