This 1949 Oldsmobile 88 Club Coupe was refurbished and modified during prior ownership,which included refinishing the exterior in Glade Green, reupholstering the two-tone interior, and installation of a 324ci V8 paired to a floor-shifted three-speed manual transmission. Additional modifications include a louvered hood, later-model trim components, a Saginaw steering box, a dual exhaust system, Cadillac wheel covers, Edelbrock valve covers, and more as detailed below. The current owner purchased the car in 2001, and within the last year the oil was changed and the battery was replaced.
The bodywork was repainted in the current Glade Green shade during previous ownership in the 1980s, and the emblems have been shaved from the hood and trunk. Custom louvers have been added to the hood, a later-style one-piece windshield is fitted, and trim components from a 1950 Oldsmobile replace the factory components.
Red-painted steel wheels wear Cadillac hubcaps with bullet-style centers and 15″ wide whitewall tires. A full-size spare featuring a matching tire is fitted in the trunk.
The interior was reportedly redone in the late 1950s by Bennie Stohr of Bilt-Rite Auto Upholstery in St. Paul, Minnesota and features dual benches upholstered in green and white upholstery with matching treatments for the doors and trim panels. Additional features include a three-spoke steering wheel, a floor-mounted shifter with a dice-style knob, and a Moon gas pedal.
The car retains a factory 110-mph speedometer, which is surrounded by an ammeter and fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil-pressure gauges. An analog clock is mounted atop the dashboard, and a Radson Engineering tachometer is fitted below. Just over 15k miles are shown on the odometer.
The replacement 324ci V8 features a single Rochester carburetor fitted with twin-draft air cleaner housing. Additional equipment includes finned Edelbrock valve covers and a dual exhaust system.
