This 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint is a first-series example that was built on January 31, 1956, and was distributed in the US through Hoffman Motor Car Co. in New York. It was acquired by the seller’s father in 2013 and subsequently refurbished from 2015 to 2019 by Alfa Italia of Burbank, California. Work included an exterior repaint, interior refresh, engine rebuild, and a brake system overhaul. The car is finished in light blue over a two-tone blue and gray interior, and power comes from a 1,290cc twin-cam inline-four paired with a column-shifted, tunnel-case four-speed manual transmission.
Delivered from the factory in Capri Blue, the Bertone-styled bodywork was refinished in its current blue by Alfa Italia in 2016. Replacement body seals were also added at the time, and the brightwork was refurbished. Features include first-series 5.75″ Carello headlights, eyebrow-style front grilles, small Lucas tail lamps, and airplane-shaped trunk trim.
The 15″ Fergat steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare wheel is mounted in the trunk. The suspension features Koni shocks all around. The four-wheel finned aluminum drum brakes were fitted with new hoses, linings, and cylinders during the refurbishment.
The cockpit features bucket seats trimmed in gray upholstery with blue piping, door panels finished in blue and gray, blue carpets, and a black dash top. Body-color steel accents the dashboard and side garnish rails, and a gray suede headliner is fitted. Additional features include an IPRA heater, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and pop-out rear quarter windows.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring with an integrated high-beam center button and frames Veglia instrumentation including a 180-km/h speedometer and 7k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows just under 78k kilometers (~48k miles).
The 1,290cc twin-cam inline-four was rebuilt in 2016 and features an aluminum engine block with cast-iron inserted sleeves, an eight-valve aluminum cylinder head, and a rebuilt Solex carburetor. A new wiring harness was installed during the engine work, and the distributor points have been converted with electric components.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed tunnel-case transmission.
