This 1956 Continental Mark II is one of 2,550 first-year examples built at the Allen Park assembly facility in Michigan and was acquired by the seller in March of 2020. It is finished in beige with an orange metalflake top over two-tone beige leather and is powered by a 368ci Y-block V8 mated with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes 15” wheels with hubcaps, a hidden fuel door, a power-adjustable front bench seat, an AM stereo, and power windows. The carburetor was rebuilt during current ownership, though the engine currently suffers from blow-by.
The car was finished in Beige (10) from the factory and was repainted around a decade ago. The roof was refinished in orange metalflake under previous ownership, and exterior details include chrome rocker-panel trim, dual exhaust outlets that exit through the rear bumper, a driver-side taillight that swings away to reveal the fuel filler, and a hood ornament.
Steel 15” wheels wear chrome covers and are mounted with 235/75 BFGoodrich wide-whitewall tires that show signs of cracking. Stopping power is provided by 12” drum brakes at each corner.
The interior is finished in two-tone light and dark beige (1D3G) and is accompanied by chrome trim on the door panels and sills. Amenities include an electronically adjustable front bench, power front and rear windows, and a push-button AM stereo. The center stack is fitted with levers for climate control.
A three-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring frames a 140-mph speedometer, a 5k-rpm tachometer, and a clock. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles.
The 368ci Y-block V8 was rated at 285 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque when new. The carburetor was rebuilt and the fuel was flushed during current ownership, though the seller states that the engine suffers from blow-by and will need to be serviced in order to become road worthy.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Turbo-Drive automatic transmission.
