This 1964.5 Ford Mustang convertible was acquired by the seller’s late grandfather-in-law in 1976. Refinished in the 1980s in burgundy over black, the car is powered by a 260ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. This 1964.5 Ford Mustang convertible was acquired by the seller’s late grandfather-in-law in 1976. Refinished in the 1980s in burgundy over black, the car is powered by a 260ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Features include a black soft top, 14″ ventilated wheels, a cassette player, a center console, and finned valve covers. Service in February 2021 included overhauling the brakes, rebuilding the carburetor, and replacing the fuel pump.
The car was delivered new in Vintage Burgundy (X) and was resprayed in the 1980s following an aLident, aLording to the seller. Features include a black soft top, chrome-finished bumpers with guards, Ford lettering across the hood, and 260 fender badges.
Ventilated 14″ wheels wear beauty rings and smooth center covers, and they are mounted with 195/75 Gillette whitewall tires. Work in February 2021 included replacing the brake master cylinder, all four wheel cylinders, the brake shoes, and a steering coupler.
The interior features front bucket seats and a rear bench with black vinyl upholstery. A full-length console separates the front seats, and the faded black carpeting is protected by rubber liners. A Mustang-branded cassette player is mounted in the factory location.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of instrumentation that includes a horizontal 120-mph speedometer flanked by fuel-level and water-temperature gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 45k of which are said to have been added since 1976.
The 260ci F-code V8 was delivered new with a two-barrel carburetor and was rated at 164 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque when new. Service in February 2021 included rebuilding the carburetor and replacing the fuel pump as well as the output-shaft seal for the transmission.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.
The vehicle warranty number reveals that the car is an early 1965 Mustang built at the Dearborn, Michigan plant and powered by a 260ci V8 with a two-barrel carburetor. The data plate shown above decodes as follows:
