This 1966 Chevrolet Caprice was purchased new by the seller’s father in 1966 and is said to have undergone a seven-year refurbishment that concluded in 1998. The car was subsequently sold to a family friend and later reacquired by the seller’s father in 2013 and gifted to the seller. It is finished in white with a black vinyl roof over a black interior and is powered by a 396ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes chrome bumpers, 15” wheels, power windows, and an AM/FM cassette stereo.
The car left the factory finished in Ermine White and was repainted as part of the refurbishment. Features include a black vinyl roof, chrome bumpers and trim, wrap-around tail lights, dual side mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. A third brake light has been installed.
Factory 15” wheels wear 225/75 Hankook Optimo tires that were mounted in July 2021. A full-size spare is included in the sale.
The interior is trimmed in black vinyl with wood veneer accents on the door panels, dashboard, and center console. Features include front bucket seats, front and rear seat belts, an updated Chevrolet-branded AM/FM cassette stereo, and a locking center console and glovebox. Power windows and air conditioning were added as part of the refurbishment, although the air conditioning does not work. The removed push-button radio is included in the sale. A code-activated push-button security ignition system is installed, which requires a code to be entered before the car can be started.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, an analog clock, and a fuel gauge while additional auxiliary gauges are located above the center console. The five-digit odometer shows 99k miles.
The 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 has reportedly been rebuilt twice, bored .030″ over, and fitted with a replacement intake manifold and carburetor. There is an intermittent starting issue that requires multiple presses of the ignition button.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission.
The window sticker shows original delivery to Courtesy Chevrolet in San Jose, California, and lists factory colors, options, and a total price of $4,147.82.
