This 1971 BMW 2800CS was acquired by the current owner in 2019 as a project and was subsequently refurbished by Classic Rides Factory of Calimesa, California. The car is finished in silver over black leather upholstery, and power comes from a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Delivered from the factory in Agave (71), the Karmann-built body received bodywork and a repaint in its current Polaris Silver by Classic Rides Factory under the seller’s ownership. The bumpers were reportedly rechromed, and the trim was refurbished and refitted with new gaskets and seals. Additional features include front bumper overriders, dual side-view mirrors, faux fender vents, and a retractable antenna.
Factory 14″ wheels are fitted with polished branded hubcaps and are mounted with 195/70 Lemans Touring A7S tires. Overhauls of the steering and suspension systems were performed during the refurbishment and Bilstein shocks were installed. The brake booster was also rebuilt, and stopping power is provided by front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features bucket seats and headrests that were reupholstered in black leather during the refurbishment. A perforated white headliner was fitted, the woodgrain trim on the dash and doors is said to have been refinished, and a new turn signal stalk with windshield wiper switch was installed. Additional features include black carpets, power windows, and a retro-style stereo. The air conditioning system was serviced with a new compressor and converted to R134a.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a rebuilt clock, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows over 15k miles.
The rear parcel shelf and trunk were recovered in vinyl, and a replacement toolbox, carpet, and lower storage container were fitted.
The 2.8-liter M30 inline-six was removed from the car during the refurbishment and fitted with dual Weber DEGV carburetors. A new battery, hoses, spark plugs, wires, ignition components, and a hood liner were installed in 2021, along with a rebuild of the alternator and a recoring of the radiator.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission that was installed by La Jolla Independent in January 2021.
