This 1973 Datsun 240Z was sold new at Import Motors of Bellingham, Washington, and is said to have been purchased by the second owner in 1974, after which it is said to have remained with one family until 2021. It was recently acquired by the seller, reportedly after spending a number of years in storage. The car is finished in orange with black side stripes over a black vinyl interior, and it is powered by a numbers-matching 2.4-liter L24 inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a Hitachi push-button AM/FM radio and a Mitsubishi cassette stereo unit as well as a chrome driver-side mirror, dual SU carburetors, and Shelby-branded 14” four-spoke wheels. Recent maintenance reportedly included an oil and filter change along with the installation of replacement radiator hoses, fuel filter, clutch slave and master cylinders, and spark plugs and wires.
The car is finished in orange with black side stripes and 240Z-branding on both doors, and features include a chrome driver’s door mirror, trim, and bumpers with overriders. The seller notes chipped paint and dented bodywork on the driver-side rear quarter panel, dents in the front bumper, and areas of touched-up paint chips.
The 14” four-spoke wheels wear Shelby-branded center caps and are mounted with 195/70 Thunderer Mach I tires at all four corners. Braking is handled by front discs with rear drums, and a set of uninstalled hubcaps are included in the sale. A full-size spare is stored in the rear cargo area.
The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl with a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. A Hitachi push-button AM/FM radio is installed along with Sanyo speakers in both doors and an aftermarket Mitsubishi cassette stereo and graphic equalizer mounted under the dash. A tear can be seen on the driver’s outer seat bolster.
The faux-wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer. Auxiliary instrumentation is mounted above the center stack and includes an analog clock along as well as displays for coolant temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles.
The 2.4-liter inline-six was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Dual SU carburetors are installed, and work performed by the seller is said to have included an oil and filter change along with the installation of a replacement fuel filter, radiator hoses, NGK spark plugs and ignition wires, and clutch master and slave cylinders.
