This 1974 Porsche 914 is one of approximately 1,000 Limited Edition models optioned with the M-778 “Can-Am” package and is finished in black with Sunflower Yellow accents. The car is said to have undergone a refurbishment during prior ownership and was acquired by the seller six years ago. Power is supplied by a replacement 2.0-liter flat-four equipped with PerTronix electronic ignition and paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Features include a removable roof panel, black vinyl upholstery, Mahle “gas burner” aluminum wheels, yellow-painted side valances, Bilstein shock absorbers, and a Web Cam hydraulic camshaft, gear, and lifters.
The 914 LE was manufactured between February and April 1974 to commemorate Porsche’s success in the Canadian-American Challenge Cup racing series. This example is said to have been repainted its current shade of black with Sunflower Yellow side valances, bumpers, and Porsche branding on both doors. Exterior features include a removable black roof panel, US-spec lighting, and black rubber bumper guards. The seller notes that the weatherstripping has been replaced.
Yellow-painted 15” Mahle “gas burner” cast-aluminum wheels feature anodized lips and are mounted with Falken Ziex ZE912 tires sized 195/65. The car rides on Bilstein shocks with upgraded rear springs, and the seller reports that the front brake rotors, calipers, and pads were replaced in November 2020.
The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in black leatherette with a matching dashboard, door panels, and salt-and-pepper carpets. A center console was included as part of the Can-Am package, and the seller notes that the heater hoses have been replaced and the pedal assembly and accelerator linkage have been refurbished.
A four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation that includes a central 7k-rpm tachometer, a 150-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge for oil pressure and fuel level. An analog clock as well as factory gauges for coolant temperature and voltage are mounted in the center console. The five-digit odometer shows just under 90k miles.
The mid-mounted, fuel-injected liter flat-four is a replacement unit that is said to have been rebuilt during previous ownership, increased in displacement to 2,056cc, and fitted with a Web camshaft and lifters, PerTronix eletronic ignition, a Raby oil pump, and a custom 2″ exhaust system. The seller notes that a crack in the intake plenum was repaired in November 2020.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle that is said to have been fitted with a short-throw shifter and a replacement clutch during prior ownership.
