This 1976 BMW 2002 was reportedly purchased by CATuned of Sacramento, California, in approximately 2010 and subsequently modified before being acquired by the seller in 2014. The car is finished in red over tan upholstery and is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged Honda F20C inline-four paired with a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional modifications include custom headers, a downpipe paired with a race catalytic converter, front coilovers and rear Bilstein shocks with camber and caster adjustability, four-wheel disc brakes featuring Wilwood calipers, and an AEM Series 2 engine-management system.
The car’s exterior was refinished in red that has subsequently faded. Exterior features include chrome trim, modified bumpers, square tail lights, tinted windows, and a sunroof. Rust is present on the driver-side rocker panel and the sunroof leaks.
Silver-finished 15″ Rota alloy wheels are mounted with 195/55 Michelin Premier A/S tires showing 2016 date codes. Stopping power is provided by Wilwood calipers paired with slotted front rotors and an E21 dual-piston brake master cylinder. The suspension consists of front coilovers with adjustable camber plates, Bilstein rear shocks, and Ireland Engineering sway bars.
The cabin features tan upholstery on the E21-sourced Recaro sport seats and door panels. Additional equipment includes AEM boost and air/fuel ratio gauges and a Pioneer CD stereo head unit. The seller notes that the car’s heater box is present, but it is disconnected and inoperable. A partial set of parts to rebuild the box is included in the sale.
A 15″ Alpina leather-wrapped steering wheel frames an instrument cluster from a Honda S2000 that includes a digital speedometer, a tachometer with a 9k-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows 109k miles.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter Honda F20C inline-four was reportedly installed by CATuned of Sacramento, California, in approximately 2010. Subsequent refinement work was performed under current ownership by Group 2 Motorsports in September 2015 that included the installation of a ceramic-coated Garrett GTX2867 turbocharger. Additional modifications include an AEM Series 2 engine-management system and custom headers paired with a downpipe and a race catalytic converter. Recent service included an engine oil and filter change, cleaning and oiling of the K&N air filter, the replacement of the clutch master cylinder, and rust repair in the spare tire well. In preparation for sale, the headers were removed, Magnafluxed, and a crack was repaired before they were ceramic-coated and reinstalled. The seller notes that the car is unlikely to pass emissions testing in many locations that require it with its current tune.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car reportedly features CATuned’s “Monster Rear-End Solution”, which includes a modified subframe that allows a BMW medium-case differential to be fitted, the addition of caster and camber adjustability, and chromoly axles.
