The 2.3-liter DOHC inline-four was designed in collaboration with Cosworth and features a light-alloy cylinder head as well as four valves per cylinder. Factory-rated output was 167 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission with a dogleg pattern and a limited-slip differential.
